The Elizabeth Hotel

Fort Collins’ only four-star hotel will please everyone but will particularly appeal to music lovers

The beautiful Elizabeth Hotel is a relatively new addition to Fort Collins. The 164-room property (12 of which are ADA-compliant) recently celebrated its one year anniversary and by all accounts things seem to be going very well. A Marriott Autograph Collection property (one of only five in the state), the Elizabeth effortlessly blends contemporary decor with luxurious accents but at the same time remains welcoming.

Minutes from downtown, the property is a great location for a weekend in town, but with a couple of dining venues as well as a live music venue, it could be just as good for a staycation.

The Emporium Kitchen and Wine Market is a beautiful place that has a French-brasserie-meets-Colorado feel. With some stiff competition in the area, the food has to be good so expect locally-sourced ingredients served simple but elegantly. Signature dishes include Skuna Bay Salmon en Papillote and Elk Wellington. The adjoining wine market offers a good range of wines, including several Colorado wines, as well as wine tastings and cooking classes.

The Sunset Lounge, on top of the hotel, has an all-weather and open-air lounge with good cocktails and regular live jazz.

To get to the Sunset Lounge you will pretty much need to pass through music venue Magic Rat. Bringing in bands from across the country, the intimate venue is a great place to start or end a night out.

There is also a coffee shop inside the Emporium Kitchen & Wine Market called Bowerbird which also has a street-facing window for quick service.

Rooms at the Elizabeth blend austerity and embellishment perfectly giving a space that is relaxing but not boring. One nice touch is the addition of record players to rooms (the record collection in the lobby is extensive and so eclectic it would be no surprise to find out it was acquired from thrift stores). The hotel takes the musical theme seriously, too with a collection of instruments in the lobby that you can checkout and take to your room. Designers even incorporated high-end acoustic products throughout the hotel, including ceiling and wall materials and window drapery, to quiet unwanted noise and enhance the musical experience.

For those who are celebrating or want to otherwise splash out, there are three suites: The Music Suite, The Ram Suite, and The Beer and Bike Suite. Each suite is designed to celebrate an aspect of Fort Collins life.

With 130 original pieces of art, many of which are by Colorado-based artists, the Elizabeth Hotel also appal to this with more visual sensibilities. Curated by Denver-based NINE dot ARTS, the pieces are a celebration of the area with pieces that, among other things, record the unadorned landscapes of Northern Colorado.

A few other things to consider, the Elizabeth is a non-smoking hotel, but it is pet friendly. There are robes in rooms (which is not something every hotel has).

The Elizabeth is currently running a few promotions, including a few aimed at those looking to get engaged. The Amp’d Up Proposal package includes a stay in the Music Suite, which has a baby grand piano, also includes a professional photographer on hand for photos of the proposal, as well as post-proposal photos on the grand staircase. There is also Champagne involved, naturally, as well as several other elements to ensure a romantic experienced.
